Hello DC community,

Firstly thanks to everyone who has done so very much to get the dreamcast back online. It is really amazing!

I finished building my DreamPi yesterday and tested it out. I am able to get online with most of the games listed, chu chu rocket for example works with out any issues. The web browser works, sonic adventure works (webpage) However unfortunately i cant get my AFO online to work. It was the first game i bought when i got the dreamcast back in 2002.

When i try to connect to the internet the screen just kind of freezes up and then after about 45 seconds will dump me back into the main menu.

Is there anything special i have to do to get this title online?

Do i need a boot disk or a special VMU file or change some settings for the dreamcasts internet configuration. Also FYI i am using dreampi 1.6

Does it dial?
If not, then you need a standard length phone number (e.g. 111-1111) on your Dreamcast or it won't even attempt to connect.

Yeah, I had that issue until I used a 7-digit phone number. Use the web browser or Quake 3 to change your phone number. As Shuouma suggested, 111-1111 works perfectly.

Amazing that was totally the issue. I am not sure if i put 555 as the phone number from an online tutorial i saw in the configuration or if i somehow messed that up on my own, but 111-1111 (1111111, wont work) for the win!!!!

Well bummer, i guess i shouldn't post so hasty but i was really happy. I can go online i can create a match but just about as soon as it starts going it tells me there are communication issues and then a few seconds later it will boot me out. Anyone ever have that happen and if so possible solutions?

Its because you need to enable DMZ or port fwding for your Dreamcast IP.

For most people their IP will end in 192.168.x.98 You just need to find out what the x is, which should either be a 1 or 0.

You could just try DMZ'ing 192.168.1.98 and see if that works, if not try 192.168.0.98

Tangential question, is there any way to keep the IP address of the DreamPi fixed? The setup i have is a router, one cable to my PC, then when i want to play dreamcast i run a second cable to the DreamPi, but when i am done i got to clean all that up. So if possible it would be great that my router always gives the DreamPi the same IP address because i would not want the DMZ the PC by mistake...

The dreamcasts ip should always stay at .98 even when u unplug and replug the pi back in. It would be better to give your pc a static ip instead

So i have a old Netgear router WNR1000 (cheapy i got here in Austria at the electronics store)

When connecting to the router, i have an option called "WAN SETUP"
Inside there is a option called Default DMZ Server. The default setting is 192.168.1.0
So i figured i would set that to 192.168.1.13
The dream pi reacts to that but unfortunately negatively.
Alien Front online complains that it cant find a dial tone when trying to connect online.

Any idea what i might try, or because i figure these NetGear routers are pretty much everywhere, does anyone have a tutorial on what settings i should adjust, so that i can DMZ this DreamPi and enjoy a game of AFO online

Do not set DMZ to 192.168.13, that's the Dreampi's IP and not your Dreamcasts IP address. Set your DMZ to 192.168.1.98
