I just went out to look for a new tv & I love the image on those new led tv's, its more than crystalclear; but how well does it support the older consoles?

I feel really bad being this is my field of expertize that I cannot give you a real answer. I will tell you that we do not sell them in Canada or in the US as far as corporate, educational or governmental professional installations go (I'm an A/V Systems Engineer). We do not recommend them because the tech is too new. It's like buying the original 1994 Dodge Neon (officially listed as 1995). The technology was 100% developed in an AutoCAD variant which had no legacy pieces like 99.7% of autos.

The problem is that the computer could not figure everything out as far as wear and tear, heat, rain, etc. As far as LED tech goes, it does have some legacy. IT is believed that LED TV technology has a clear advantage in contrast, viewing angle and black levels while having a slight advantage in color. LCD's consume less power thus a lighter electric bill. Life of the unit is still in question as well as service/maintenance. Currently, LED's can be purchased as large as 70" (5" larger than the largest LCD) last time I checked. LED TV's are greater in price per inch than Plasma or LCD.

I'd like to see one next to a LCD. They said the same thing about the Sony Betamax being no better than the VHS. The people who actually saw a beta was blown away compared to the VHS quality. The real difference the sales people would not tell you is that the recording quality of the Beta was miles apart from the VHS and VHS decks ate tapes due to the "M" loading as opposed to the "U" loading Beta did. This is not what people were told thus VHS won out. I hope the LED hype is not bogus being you have to pay more for something that may "eat tapes" (ie break down or burn out).

I hope I did not put you to sleep. Let us know how it is if you get one.

I think the Dc looks horrible on large, wide screen LCD displays. So, I would think it would be the same for an LED. Also, some lcd (and probably led) tv's would upscale the dc resolution (480i or 480p) to their native resolution (usually 720p or 1080p) and that will typically create a small lag between controller input and seeing it on the screen.

why is it then that my dc works perfectly on my 22" lcd monitor (for my pc)??
isn't an lcd tv basically a giant lcd monitor?
or am I wrong?

PC Monitors work a bit differently. They generally look better because of thier smaller size. I imagine your 22 monitor is wide screen?

I have but three things to say regarding LED TV.
2,000,000 to 1 CONTRAST RATIO!!!!!!!

120HZ REFRESH!!!!!!!

and

I REALY WANT ONE!
But alas, the cheap small-ish models cost around two months take home pay for me right now.

LED will eventually wipe the floor with LCD screen technology just as LCD has wiped the floor with Plasma technology. LCD Technology is just to fragile and unreliable to ever be a viable choice for A/V enthusiasts.

I personally despise LCD screens in general. Pixel size is predefined, Dreamcast no longer looks crisp when used with VGA. :( Individual pixels can literally get stuck and/or die at whim. The flickering flourescent backlighting makes your eyes tired faster than CRT ever did. Backlighting can burn out. The screen itself is fragile and shouldn't be touched. And worst of all, the blasted screen doesn't double as a static air filter, so my desk stays dusty anymore.

When I shoppd for an HDTV I bought the last model CRT HDTV Samsung released. It's only 30", but I dare say its image quality is better than any LCD I've yet to see.

Being wide screen 16:9 or 16:10 it will stretch and distort most Dc games, making them look horrible. Unless your monitor has 4:3 Aspect ratio retaining properties. If so, then sweet.

well, I guess you've seen some of my vids on youtube? they look good imo

btw, I just got a samsung 32" lcdtv (series 5) for my dreamcast and that looks & feels awesome too (no lag & shit so far; and I tested fast response games, like sonic, mr driller & dux), I hooked it up to the tv with my vga box.
the only downside it has (& its only a small one imo), is that I've got a small black border on each side of my screen (which I'm guessing has to do with the 680x480 output)
I've centered the pic so far, I don't think I'm gonna be able to get rid of the borders, but it really doesn't matter; image is crystalclear though...
