16:9 on large flatscreens.

Hey guys, so I've had this question for a while and I haven't really been able to find a sufficient answer. Is the Dreamcast only meant to be displayed in a 4:3 screen ratio? Or can it be, under proper circumstances, be displayed in a 16:9 ratio on a larger, newer tv? If it is at 16:9 will the image be stretched, zoomed-in, distorted, or in any way look different than it would in 16:9? I have the same question for the Gamecube as well?
Thanks in advance!

The vast majority of games are meant to be displayed at a 4:3 aspect ratio. There are a handful of games that support widescreen and you will need to find the option and turn it on in the game menus. Rayman 2 and Starlancer are two I can think of off the top of my head. They will be anamorphic widescreen, which means the resolution doesn't change, but the image is meant to be stretched by the display to 16:9 to look proper. Any games meant to be displayed at 4:3 that are displayed at 16:9 will look stretched. The same is true for Gamecube.

Yeah, there's only a couple games that do it. Only ones I can think of off the top of my head right now are Toy Commander, and Rayman 2. I know there's a couple others though

Yeah, no matter what you do, you'll need your TV to stretch the image for you. As RPG said, there are a few games that have widescreen options in the settings. There are also some
widescreen Codebreaker codes that you can use for a lot of games. They work well for the most part but they can cause some minor graphical glitches with some games.
