Conundrum on game not working (NFL 2K2)

This is new.
I bought a handful of games at a local shop on Monday, and they all work perfectly except for 'NFL 2K2' on Dreamcast. The splash screens work, the opening footage montage works, but after that the screen just goes black. Same if you press start during the SEGA Sports splash screen or the montage.
I thought it was the disc, so I took it back to the store. They don't have a test Dreamcast so they swapped the disc out. The same thing happened, so I thought maybe they mixed up the discs and gave me the bad disc back. Same thing happened. I recorded a video of what was going on including showing other games I bought from them (NHL 2K2 and WSB 2K2) working in real time, went back a second time, we all watched the disc swap, still, the same problem when I got home.
For reference: I have a VGA box hooked up to my Dreamcast which is then both directly connected to my Sony A9G with regular AV cables and via OSSC with HDMI through my Yamaha receiver (pass through). Every other game I have works just fine with both the VGA/HDMI side and the regular AV side.
I was about to take my Dreamcast in to the store with the disc when I thought of trying a different TV. I took my DC and used regular DC AV cables to connect to an older Sony Bravia 1080p set I have that has built-in R/W/Y AV (also VGA, but I digress) ports. I started NFL 2K2, and whaddaya know, it worked no problem. I turned the Dreamcast off, then on, it worked. Off then on, off then on. Worked every time.
So my conclusion is that somewhere my VGA box is cutting the audio and video before it goes through either the VGA/OSSC/HDMI and the AV cables before the game loads its title screen and menu, but I don't know how/why and no other game has this issue. Also, when looking at my OLED, the game screen itself isn't a black screen, but rather it looks like the video isn't displaying at all after the splash screens and montage. I know OLEDs turn off their pixels for black screens/areas, but usually when a game is loading, and it's a black screen, the black is more dark grey than the screen turning off to produce the black.
Needless to say I'm at a total loss. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Suggestions? Cures? Thanks!
