Newbie - Help!

Hi guys,

I just purchased a Dreamcast and a couple of games (got a nostalgia itch I want to scratch!), and I'm having a bit of trouble.

I got Sonic Adventure and Chu Chu Rocket with it, and whilst Chu Chu Rocket seems to work fine, Sonic Adventure steadfastly refuses to work.

I put it in the console, and it loads, shows the Sega logo bit, and then returns me to the Dreamcase desktop thingy.

I've checked the disk, and there appear to be no scratches or anything that could be causing this, so do you guys have any help or advice to offer?

Much appreciated!

Meta

So your dreamcast has problems loading original games? believe me when i say that's a common problem.

The laser calibration is something very sensitive so i would recomend burning sonic adventure to a cd-r and then play.

Thanks for the advice KIREK, do I need any special software to do this, or can I just use a standard PC burning tool like NERO to create a copy?

get the image here, get cdi2nero here (in case you got a nero that doesn't support cdi images)

simply drag & drop the cdi on the cdi2nero.exe & wait a minute, it is now converted to a, .img which burns fine with nero

btw, the laser calibration trick really isn't that hard, see how it is done here

and welcome to the board m8

Cheers mate!

I'll give the calibration trick a whirl first, and let you know how I get on with that.

Welcome, metacarpi. It's always nice to hear of new Dc owners.

Discjuggler is an excellent program to burn .cdi files with. you can get it for free here: http://www.padus.com/downloads/demo.php

Don't know what to tell you about your disc there. Maybe it's no good or there is a problem w/ the DC?
