Does ATOMIS actually mean something in the name Atomiswave, or is it a mistranslation/nonsense?

It took me a while to notice that it's Atomiswave, not Atomicwave. Is that just another example of the Engrish common at the time?

for me it was exactly in the opposite half, in first I've always thought it was AtomisWARE :)

Atomis is Latin for atoms, perhaps it originates from there. A wave of atoms.

and latin its a copy of ancient greek,here in greece we call atoms "atomo".....so in general its a greek name ...at least the first name ,and yes the meaning is a wave of atoms which is so cool :) cause its a dreamcast with different name ;) :D :)
