welcome :)
about pso, just try yourself all the classes to decide what you like most
before starting the journey
generally hunters are good balanced characters, also for beginners, great for close combat
rangers instead are ok starting from level 10 at least, and are great if you prefer to shoot at enemies from medium/long distance
or maybe you want to be a mage ?

Hello! I started off with a mage and that was a disaster so I ended up trying a hunter and that was fun. I havent tried a ranger yet but I think I want to stick with the hunter.

About combat, im assuming there's a steep curve to getting good at this. Do you have any tips for hunter class?

Welcome to DC-Talk. I hope you enjoy your time here. We are an open community so feel free to ask questions. For getting your Dreamcast back online, Dreamcast Live is a great resource to find all you need from software, hardware and setup. It is the easiest and best it has ever been since the original era of the Dreamcast.

As far as PSO goes, I Am Shawn is our most knowledgeable member here. PCwzrd13 might be a good bet being he is very active here as well. I only know I have a male hunter (purple) who does a bit of everything. It is a well balanced character which is what I prefer to have.

not really, just try to learn how the 2-3-4 hits combo work, pressing the standard/hard attack buttons at the right time
kill enemies and level up, update weapons and armour, like in any other rpg

my hint is only to level up a bit your character, before starting the missions
just take the main teleport without choose any mission (Forest 1), grind a little
don't bother if you die there, you will be throw back to the hospital, but you can return in the last level reached,
this until you turn off the console/ exit from the game

Thanks so much! Also I noticed in this game that when you die, your weapon drops where you die. Does that disappear after awhile or does it stay there until you pick it back up? Thanks again!
Seeing others play on YouTube i noticed they were using a combo. Someone briefly mentioned something called a mag, what do those do?

If you die and drop your weapon, it should stay there until someone picks it up or you quit. While I won't say for certain that item drops never disappear, they stick around for seemingly forever.

A tip for combos, you'll notice that you have both a normal attack and a hard attack, which is stronger but less accurate. But for each successful hit in a single combo, the next hit in that same combo will be more accurate. So going right up to an enemy and trying to do a hard attack right away is likely to just miss, but if you do a normal attack or two first and then a hard attack in the same combo, it'll be much more likely to connect.

Mags are those things that float near your shoulder and follow you around everywhere. They sort of act like a special upgradable piece of armor, as you can give them 3 items every 3.5 minutes and their stats will increase. They make a big difference, so feeding them often is advised (I lose about 300 attack power if I unequip mine).

My #1 tip is saving a back up. If you have two VMUs, copy your main save every so often. I use 4 VMU's, so I overwrite over the oldest one. The Dreamcast program software I use to do this is called Dream Explorer. It is a free homebrew utility that has a file manager that allows you to copy your save on to another VMU. Sega did NOT allow you to copy your save file unlike the other games. So, there are other save methods but this is my preferred method. Please note I use 100% real Dreamcast hardware, not an emulator or a modified console.

REASON:
The most frustrating thing in playing PSO is how easy and unexpected it is for your save to corrupt. Most players can go years, others might be online when something happens to the server at an inopportune moment. A power loss can also kill your save. I also do not trust the online server save because if the server dies, you have to hope that once it returns, it saved your character. To be clear, the server never automatically saves your character, it is a command you have to type once you are connected.

Ohh i see, well at least it stays there for awhile, but ok thanks! I was kinda worried when I first saw my weapon was gone and then I found out it was there lol, is there a way to fight without a weapon?

And ok thanks! Yeah I noticed i was missing alot and I wondered if it was just because of my level, but now I can confirm it was just the way I was fighting, interesting.

And cool!!! I noticed the mag floating next to my character, what do I feed it? Just anything I find? Thanks again!!
