Sonic Adventure 2 not working

I recently got a copy of Sonic Adventure 2, and it will not start no matter what I do. When I try to play it, I get the intro, the "sonic team" thing, but after the intro, my console restarts and reboots like nothing happened. My VMU is full, but it won't even let me run it without it. I ordered a new VMU, but I don't know if that's the problem. Please help
