i've got a GDEmu modded dreamcast and i've got a copy of dreamexplorer on there, and the "copy to pc" functionality had me curious if there's any easy or cheap ways to get it to copy to PC? I don't have the BBA and not sure i'd want to drop $150+ on one when it's only compatible with like 3 games, I was considering building a dreampi - but i have no idea if you can use the dreampi to dump VMU's?? i've never seen anything about that?
I am curious what other people that have GDEmu modded DCs use for dumping VMUs to PC

You can backup individual saves with Dreampi and the site Katana.cyou
This is the device you want to use for proper full and copy protected VMU backups. It's also great for homebrew and playing the Atomiswave games.

hmm, so it is possible via dreampi but it seems a bit public...I guess I could setup a local webserver with an upload form to do similar as that site does, not sure if there's any specifics to pull that off though...
I was wondering if the SD reader might be the way to go, it seemed slightly redundant to have both dreamshell/sd card reader AND GDemu, but I guess you can just launch dreamshell from the gdemu, so maybe not really a huge deal. And the reader is cheap enough. I guess I just need a GDI/CDI image of dreamshell to load on my GDemu card, and then another SD card for dumping the VMU saves to.

That's what I do. Just boot an image of dreamshell from GDEMU and launch Retrodream through the SD Serial card adaptor and use the VMU backup. I've only got the one VMU so saving space is an issue and this is quick and painless.
