So my laptop has Windows 7 and the guide I see only goes upto XP. Do you think it would work using that configuration? Or is there something here on the forums I am missing. Thanks for any help.

EDIT

And I will be using the 56k modem as I got juked into buying a LAN adapter and of course it can't be used to go online but helps with dumping games.

windows 7 just came out. i suggest trying the xp guide, but don't get your hopes up. not many people have success using xp for a pc-dc server.

The problem is with needing a friendly program to work with Windows 7. This is why I hate Microsoft, if their dialup server program was a real Dial-up Server program, we'd be fine.

Yeah from what I heard around the web is that the best option is linux. Try ubuntu or mint linux if your new to it at it looks to be a lot easier. Open Source RULZ!!

Before i even try it... Do you guys think a virtual machine would do the trick..? If yes, i would be up for customizing an xp or an ubuntu machine and upload it. I know of many people willing to play dc online but cant afford a bba or arent geek enough to configure a PC DC server. So you think a virtual machine could control a modem? Im asking not because im lazy and wont even get started, but i dont even have a modem.

First off, I always thought I knew a lot about computers but once you sees thes guys talk on the forum I still need to learn alot. I am a retard when it comes to coding and all of it looks giberish to me. But if you look at both windows intructions and linuxes it seems way easier with less steps. Windows just isnit the best for a dial up server. As for the virtual machine I barely know what that is so sorry about that but what you could do is just make a live cd of ubuntu but be sure you can save your settings onto the hardrive but if you do that there would be no need to delete windows or dual boot both of them you would just load it off of a cd/dvd or usb flash drive.

windows is the to the best. windows 98 anyway, linux is also good but it takes more technical knowledge. as for a virtual machine? i have seen a few people try to use a virtual machine but they all failed.

cant remember off of the top of my head. seems like it had a problem running a part of the hardware. maybe the modem?
