Anyone who read my "need advice" topic knows ive hard a hell of a time getting the dreamcast ready to play pso online. Like everybody, i hurted me to get a bba. And above all, i went through many issues regarding the net setup. Wont list them, thats not the point of the topic.
The fact is that this night was really exciting, ive played my first online game again, after 9 years. It brought back a lot of lovely memories. My favorite game of all time, my favorite console.. Ive played in a balanced party, nice people.. Everything was fine.
On the other hand, im disappointed with technical issues. Short version: I have lost
TWICE
my items, the unequipped ones, within 4 hours. Once it was by joining a game, it hanged forever; Restarted the dreamcast. Second time, i was playing alone, minding my own business, and someone joins. Guess what happens? Yeah, game freezes again.
It wont make a big deal about the losses, right now im only level 10, you can imagine the value of the lost items: not even worth mentioning.
But what about when ill be lvl > 150. Ill be supposed to have plenty of ubers in my pockets, and i cant predict when is the game gonna crash. This is sads me a lot. Honestly, the couple of games i played, i was real happy. Great controls and all, but this makes me think about focusing on this game. And pso isnt a game like quake 3 arena where you connect and frag and youre done. No, pso is a game that involves countless hours. And i dont wanna spend countless hours and then loose most of my stuff suddenly.. And above, quite often.
Like i said, it happened twice in 4 hours. Thats quite a considerable frequency. It left me a bad impression, for a first day.
Now, i really love this game, this console, and this community.
Is there any way to avoid such frequent failure? It ruins the gaming experience... Seriously...

/save <password> (in lobby)
if you lose everything then go to the lobby and type /restor <password>, the server takes a while to make this happen, so wait a few seconds.
After this select quit, if you try to join a game the items are lost again.
2nd solution, always have a backup char on another memory card

If you lose anything (like your char), simply go offline, backup again and reenter the server.

I always do thatsmith wrote: Many claim that burning the .iso at the lowest speed possible will help.
Is there a version like that with the current ip? And what other bugs does such version "offers"?smith wrote: You can use my modded iso to help cut down on the fsods. It seems to not fsod as frequent. It does allow you to play offline quests, unlike the other releases. But, there are some bugs in this release.![]()
In that case.. I dont know why pc players are allowed.. Not to mention this is DC-Talk, not PC-Talk.smith wrote: !!PC Version PSO player will 9 times out of 10 crash the DC Version PSO player when they join a game!!
Re: pso dc comebackmixed impressions
Well i can only apear with PC atm and it's basicly pso ver.2 right?
We don't know exactly what causes the FSOD, some ppl use the old US version and have no problems or stope having those quests FSODS after a while, for example, ives once made a game that didn't FSOD in quests, but even by using the same burning speed and program ppl could not replicate what he did.
I always burn at top speed and i never have any problems exept the ones we all know (fsod in quests, may fsod if someone joins)
But since i have backups wich are made after the save (only in a different memory card) then those things don't scare me.

Just to clarify you will ONLY lose the items that arent equiped in the inventory... the ones equipped and the ones in the item bank will be safe...
Nice try you fool! lol BBQ!

Well yes, so..?K_I_R_E_E_K wrote:Well i can only apear with PC atm and it's basicly pso ver.2 right?

Yes i have realized that, indeed. But since i can only equip 1 weapon i and usually have 3-4 in my inventory... I have loose 2-3 weapons.. Like i said, right now looses arent big. To speak concretely, i have lost a dagger +1, saber+3 and a handgun+3... Stuff ive recovered in 30 mins by doing a quick mop up quest on my own.Neoblast wrote:Just to clarify you will ONLY lose the items that arent equiped in the inventory... the ones equipped and the ones in the item bank will be safe...
But like i said on my first post, this will be a problem when the stuff ill loose will be of bigger value.. Thats my main point.

Use the methods i said, works greatly.
Well the server itself has atracted a few PC players since the server supports ver.2.

I use dial up, I crash VERY rarely. Only twice have I lost everything during a total of probably 40+ hours gameplay over the server so far. I can't say I know what keeps me from crashing or disconnecting I just know that I disconnect a LOT less often then most of the people I play with. Since I'm like the only person using dial up I have to think that might have something to do with it. Although, that's not to say dial up is not without its problems.

Re: pso dc comebackmixed impressions
I will use those commands. Yet if smith says that really happens 9/10 times... I think thats awfully unfair to dc players.K_I_R_E_E_K wrote:Use the methods i said, works greatly.

Plus theres an inconvenient to the /save command, and correct if im wrong but: you cant save while in a party. So imagine the situation: the most uber drop occurs, like for instance red ring or spread needle. What should i do? Keep playing and take the risk of a pc player joining and screw my drop? Or go back to the lobby, and make a new game?
I understand the point that PC players and DC players are using the same version, but this isnt PC-talk EITHER PSOV2-talk. Its DREAMCAST-Talk. And honestly i find lovely the idea of PC players joining, because from starters we are so few, so if theres another platform with the very same version.. The idea at the beginning sounds terrific, honestly. But personally when i see that much issues, and when problems caused by this cross platform are considerable (FSOD), and that happens 9/10 times a PC player joins.. Thats just unfair... Id rather have 2 people less playing, and have a LOT less of fsods.
I dont think connection type has to do with FSOD frequency.TripMercy wrote:I use dial up, I crash VERY rarely.
