Typical Issue With Mobo?

I was having issues with my DC when using VGA cable and thought it was my AV port. Long story short it ended up being the scanline generator i was using. A friend gave me a non working DC to source the AV port for repair. But now that my DC is working i dont need to do that. I would like to get it working so i can have a backup for events.
Im wondering what are some of the most common issues with a Mobo not working.
Ive already tested it in my DC so i can rule out fan, GDrom and PSU as being the issue and know its the mobo.
When i power it up i get a black screen nothing else.
Its a VA1 board.
There is nothing obvious wrong with the mobo when looking at it.
