JP painted shell on NA Dreamcast hardware?

Do JP region controllers work plugged into NA region Dreamcast console? Also, are limited edition shells swappable? Could I put the black sega sports shell on a JP Dreamcast? Does it fit? Will it still play? What about Sakura Wars shell on NA Dreamcast?
What could go wrong?

Controllers and vmu works on any region console and i m dont known much about the shells sorry.

There is variance between DC models regarding heatsink size, internal board size, and RF shielding shape. Mainly between VA0 and VA1. I have used a clean VA2 shell with VA1 innards since VA2 isn't compatible with GDEMU and everything fit fine, but there can be large hardware shape and size differences in early VA0. The shells are all basically the same with different stickers/mold marks.
