Running a PC Quake 3 Server For Dreamcast In 2024

Hi again all,
I’ve got both a retail DVD PC copy of Quake 3 as well as Quake3e to run the game on a modern PC.
How do I go about setting up a server on my PC so that Dreamcast and PC players can play on it together?
I think you need version 1.16 on PC to do this but I’m not sure that this version will run on a modern PC?
Any help would be great, as it would be nice to have a server running on my PC for all my Dreamcast family

You need an unpatched version of Quake 3 for PC, the Point Release 1.16n (patch) and the official Dreamcast map pack. Install the game, patch it up to 1.16n and try to run it. You can check the version of the game ingame by pressing the console key on your keyboard: "^"
Do you have a BBA?

Just ask Mechamic, he can hook you up with everything needed to host servers for dreamcast for OG Quake 3 and the Quake 3 Custom Maps.

Thanks mate, Quake 3 retail is won’t work after installing from DVD on my PC with windows 10. I’m not sure modern ports such as Quake e etc will run Dreamcast servers.
Is there anyway to run version 1.16 on a modern PC?

Mechanic can give you a folder all you nned to do is open a couple ports and then just a couple clicks and everything is running on windows 10.

Thanks and big thanks to mehanic who supplied a link with everything needed.
I’ve got everything set up with DC maps and config files working and can join games from the same PC but haven’t had chance to test to see if my Dreamcast can connect.
The only issue I have now is that the server is not visible on the DC Talk Master Server list other than displaying TIMEOUT with no player numbers. I’m using the current address for the DC Talk master server list.
Any ideas on how I can sort this out?

I think the issue is opening ports - how do I do that?

i suggest googling how to do port forwarding in the internet router you own since it can be very different for a lot of people. Some internet provider might not even have the option to do that.
