Hello there

Hello hello

Just stumbled across this community forum by change, when I was looking into modding my childhood console.

So far i've got a GDEMU clone ordered, Cleanpower and controller board replacement parts. Obvioulsy at some point I will do an HDMI mod, but until I play the console more I cant justify the spend. Although, any "cheaper" recommendations are appreciated :)

My first stop after installation of my parts will be to load up my console with a few childhood games. Is it possible to rip my games easily or is the a nice precompiled set that I can pull them from?

Thanks :)

solutions from cheapest to most expensive:

1. A simple vga2hdmi converter. Does not upscale just converts vga signal to hdmi to run on modern tv.
https://www.amazon.com/Sutvor-Adapter-C ... B0CR1N65XJ

2. Bitfunx VGA to HDMI adapter. This one is newer than the one below. This one claims to support RGB/VGA to HDMI. Supports 4:3 or stretches screen to 16:9 1080p. I have not tried it so buy at your own risk.

2A. I would have linked the Kaico one but it is out of stock. This bitfunx one looks just like it though so maybe they bought them out. Same packaging and colors.

2B. Alternative would be this one.
https://www.amazon.com/Dreamcast-HDMI-C ... B08CZ29GSQ

3. GBS-C upscaler. VGA/Component/Composite to HDMI upscales to 1080p. I use this one to upscale in my arcade. Works pretty well but the wifi adapter inside is very weak.

4. OSSC upscaler. Newest version. Description says it supports up to 1440p. 103 us dollar.

After this you are in Digital HDMI mod territory.

Hope this helps and good luck. It isn't all the solutions available. And I am sure someone will come correct me with even more options.

I’m hopping back in with my Dreamcast with a DreamPi setup and figured it’s a good time to also treat it with an HDMI converter.

I keep seeing the talk that Kaico/Bitfunx stole from other community projects which is not good, but I keep hearing glowing reviews about them and I’m really appreciating that VGA/RGB signal toggle the newer models have so I don’t have to fiddle as much when it comes to games skipping VGA support, which if I opt to use my TV’s VGA port I’m presumably locked into that. A lot of the people that also bring up the claims either don’t really provide alternative products other than just parroting “support the community” and they don’t seem to have that video signal toggle the Kaico dongle has.

How crucified would I be if I go with the actual compelling product that suits my needs that may have dubious origins? Moral high roads like these were what got me into an extra layer of fun when modding an OG Xbox with a Modxo chip bc “it’s open source and just needs an rp2040” :T

You just stand ten toes down and make a decision! No regrets! The HDMI police don't need to know what you use. LOL Seriously though do what is best for your setup and situation. There are many options out there like I listed above. You just need that sweet looking DC picture on screen and play.

From reading this, I just learned some HDMI adapters now support a selectable RGB or VGA input. These should be able to run ANY Dreamcast game. Also, cool is that Dubcity figured out how to use Sonik's RGB (SCART) patches, so an RGB patched version from Dubcity's collection should also work with these adapters.

I've got the Kaico adapter and it's worked with every game I've thrown at it. A few I had to switch to RGB to get them working, but they still play fine.
