Dreamcast - Metal Canary: Play, Create, and Share Your Maps!

Introducing Metal Canary, a brand-new Shmup built on a Brazilian engine for the Dreamcast! What sets this game apart is its ability to load custom maps through the consoleโ€™s serial port. Plus, it includes a level editor that lets you design your own maps, place enemies and items exactly where you want, test them directly on your Dreamcast, and share your creations with friends.

Today, I'm excited to release the alpha version of this project (itโ€™s still a small demo). While the scope is modest for now, the potential is huge, and it can grow even more with your support.

Currently, only enemy and item positions can be loaded via the serial port, but in the next version, I aim to include support for loading background images as well.

Check out the video to learn more and download the demo! :)

How to create your map:

- Place the "mc" folder in the root directory of the SD card (Serial Port);
- The CDI is compatible with DreamShell CDI, GDEMU, or CDr;
- The level editor allows you to customize the enemy map. Simply edit, save, and copy the generated file from editor_de_nivel\export\ShumpUp_Vertical\map.map to the mc\stage1\map folder on the SD card.

*(Enemies go from 1 to 5 and itens from 8 to 10, right click and save them on the editor).

This project is completely free, and its future depends on your feedback.
