GDEMU Heatsink

How important are the two heatsinks for the GDEMU? I saw this modification someone made to the SD card mount kit that allowed both the GDEMU and SD extender to work together. I'm considering doing the same, just not sure the best way to cut into the plastic without destroying it.

The heatsinks are pointless, they don’t produce any heat.

Was in exactly the same spot a few days ago.
I even went as far as to attach the heatsinks without bothering to look at what I had to do next - and it was so obvious the two wouldn't fit together unless I started cutting some plastic.
I just wrenched them off (not recommended) and put them in a box. At the end of the day, how hot can it possibly get in there? I've removed the entire GDRom unit and the PSU has been replaced with a DreamPSU so now there's almost nothing in there except the main pcb. Why are they even recommended?
Finally got my Dreamcast back in action - it turns out I definitely had a very, very, broken GDemu (I got it years ago, it was the very first version) If anyone has a GDemu that keeps reseting, not loading, corrupting cards, etc - it's probably the GDemu and not the console or the connecting pins.
Dreamcast revived, order restored
