Hi,
Try as I might, I can't get this game to boot, and google isn't really helping. I've come across this old thread:
https://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/ph ... 3a31762822
Which shows that others have had my issue, but no real answers on a fix, does anyone have any advice? (I see there is suggestion of a boot disc, but thats' not something I can work out how to do on a GDEMU)

What type of video cable are you using?

Do you have ability to test composite or S-Video?
I'm curious if there's some console region quirk with Ooga Booga's video initialization code.
That being said, this game has some popularity because of the ability to play online via Dreampi, so you'd think you'd see more reports.

Yeah and thats why I want to play it
I think I can poke the Akura into doing something other than VGA... I'll have a fiddle

Ah there we go, if I boot the DC in VGA, then select Ooga Booga and switch to RGB as it loads, then back to VGA it works.
Weird, but at least it works.
Cheers!

So it's a quirk in the video initialization code for Ooga Booga when it detects a PAL console!
You see, Dreamcast software is somewhat unique in that 100% of the video mode support is done on a per-game basis. Sometimes the code and its logic is sane, other times it leaves out use-cases not intended by the original developers.

Thats pretty interesting. I guess as an NSTC only game they never looked into it as you say.
Id imagine the lack of other people talking about it/reporting it is probably because the amount of people who boot it on a PAL console (or at least one without a modded BIOS) in VGA mode is probably pretty slim!
