Bitmap Bureau, the guys behind Xeno Crisis, Final Vendetta and Battle Axe, have just announced that they have a retro-styled Terminator 2 adaptation in the works, named Terminator 2D: No Fate, scheduled for release on modern platforms on September 5th 2025:
Releases for retro platforms have been confirmed to be announced - their making-of video talks about the game having been developed using their Abstraction engine, which allows for porting to a wide number of modern and retro machines:
The video noticeably features the likes of the Mega Drive, SNES, Neo Geo and Dreamcast, all of which received ports of Xeno Crisis. A port to the Neo Geo seems like a shoe-in, since all three of their previous games have been ported to it, but a Dreamcast port definitely doesn't seem to be off the table. I'm guessing much of this will be dependent on licencing restrictions.
Potentially exciting news! A fully licenced adaptation of a popular IP could have a huge effect upon the world of retro development if it draws in the right level of success.
