How feasible would it be to get THPS3 running?

I'm not dying to play the game on Dreamcast since I already have it on PS2, but I just think it would be cool to have. Especially since the N64 and PS1 both got Pro Skater 3, it would be cool to see Dreamcast round out the trilogy. Since GTA 3 seems to be going well, what would it take to get Pro Skater 3 (or even 4) on Dreamcast?

GTA3+VC stems from the partial decompile that got axed by R*. Some threat certainly..

Without source code I don't think those'll be feasible I am afraid

I think those GTA 3 and VC ports finally answer the question if some PS2 multiplattform games from 2000 to 2003 could run on DC, at least the ones built with the same Renderware version. So if the the question is the good ol´Can DC run THPS3 (the PS2/PC/GCN/Xbox version)? Answer is yes, i mean, if it runs GTA 3 which is way more complex, shouldn´t have problems with Pro Skater 3, and as far as i know this one also uses renderware so...There wouldn´t be any issue on DC capabilities end. Thing is, we need the PC version of the game to get recompiled as it happened with re3....As far as i know, there is a team working on Simpsons Hit and Run for DC. hope we got news soon of that! Me personally would like to see that one, of course Pro Skater 3 and why not 4, Soul Reaver 2, Max Payne (that would challenging due to bullet time), Burnout, Commandos 2 and probably the most unlikely to reach us: Virtua Fighter 4

I think something like Super Monkey ball on Dreamcast would be amazing we got ports of all the other Naomi games I assumed Monkey ball just didn't materialize due to being too late. One has to wonder if a decomp of the GNC version would be in the realm of possible on DC.

I do wonder if decomps of Naomi 2 could lead to some talented modders trimming polys retexturing surfaces, to squeeze say VF4. Modders are doing something similar with GTA3 / VC where we will be able to bake our disk with Dreamcast optimized textures \ models soon which will both look better and in theory improve performance.

Regardless I have to say I feel super spoilt with 2 of the best GTA on DC.
Hoping Sonic Mania, Diablo and Half-life end up making it!

Sonic Mania I believe is in development based on other forum threads I've seen around here, but I've heard it was difficult to fit it on the Wii; Dreamcast might be a different story due to hardware differences, but Dreamcast's limitations are something every dev has to work against.

This was always one I never understood. Why Activision wasted resources putting THPS3 on the N64 when it was so cut back and the system was a long time dead in the USA by the point it came out.
The Dreamcast was still being supported by Activision in 2001 with stuff like SpiderMan and Matt Hoffman coming out quite late - So, god knows why they released Hoffman and not THPS3 - there seems to be a lot of inconsistency when it comes to later Dreamcast stuff, odd choices with lazy PSOne conversions rather than using the console as the lead format for games that would end up on the PS2 as well.

Anyway, Dreamcast would run it fine. Buuuut.... The source code is needed, which it isn't out there (at the moment ..)

I came to post the same thing lol It baffled me back in 2001 upon its initial release. Then gobsmacked me in 2002 when it was released for the N64. I feel like it would've been a decent seller on Dreamcast, even with the other 6th gen system out. It would have had to sell more on Dreamcast than N64 too.

Fun fact: I briefly had a PSone in 2005, and Tony Hawk 4 was one of the few games I had. I know the legacy and install base for the PS1 was very high for Tony Hawk still at that time, but THPS4 on PS1 always amused me. It did play quite well.

I'm guessing the reason THPS3 was ported to the N64 is because of the userbase numbers

(one quick Google search later...)

Nintendo 64 sold 32 million units
Dreamcast sold 8.6 million units

The money men (producers, I guess) would have looked at the numbers and assumed the n64 was the much safer bet.

I always assumed the Dreamcast sold between 9-10 million consoles, it seems to drop as the years go by for some reason.
I'd be interested to see how many copies of THPS2 sold on the DC versus the N64, considering the user base for both consoles was quite high in the USA, you'd think it would be a given to finish up a port of Pro Skater 3 for DC, but I think had it happened, we'd all be here talking a different tune with Activision giving us probably a washed out port based on the previous game like the PSOne version was .
