Just getting my DC all set up. I was just wondering what game really shows off the graphics the DC is capable of.

That depends.I like to extract frames using null dc emu to see whats the polygon count. And to be honest the dc was probably used at half capacity in its lifetime of what it could do polygon count wise.On strictly polygon count impressing its only a handful of games, like floigan bros, trigger heart, dead or alive 2(considering its a 1999 naomi game),shenmue to a lesser extent, maken x also at lesser extent(who apparantly runs at a similar polycount to sonic adventure 2(2001...I think) despite it being a 1999 game).

On the artistic flipside theres fur fighters, sakura wars 3 who used lots of motion blur which is rare for the dreamcast, sakura wars 4 which is improved but shorter than 3,skies of arcadia the only dreamcast game to use bloom as well as tons of motion blur, shenmue 1 and 2 providing a small but very detailed word and a great story, and of course jet grind radio that for its time provided a large world to explore(but u have to unlock its sections). There are more but this is a good start.

Sorry for the long-winded response.

some games look better using VGA. instead of naming every game that had ok graphics why don't you tell us a genre or two. there are way to many games with the same caliber of graphics.

i'll name a few that impressed me when i first saw them

Sonic 1 and 2
Test Drive: Le Mans and V-Rally
Resident evil code veronica
Demolition Racer: no exit
Soul Calibur
Crazy Taxi 1 and 2

any 2K sports games, though they are less impressive today than they were back in 2001. there are many other games that look great but i would have to look over all my games to find them. also remember i play these in VGA. some games look good in VGA that don't really look that good on a TV. one such game is Quake 3. it looks ok in 480i, but it looks a lot better in 480p imo.

yeah, I figured that they could have made the graphics better over time.

I love what it does to my Tekken 3.

Does any one know of any homebrew demos that just push the DC to its limits?

I Will try all of these games out.
I also need to find a spare $25 to get a VGa box.
I think the games look fantastic on my TV already.

**Off topic**

I like Unreal much better then quake. I played that last night for an hour or so. started on novice and worked my way up to master or whatever the second hardest is.

** **

I regret getting a PS2 back in the day. I should have gotten a DC. the PS2 looks like shit now.

I like all kinds of games except sports games.

Daytona USA definitely shows off the graphics and rock solid frame rate.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica shows off the lighting abilities

&

Shenmue shows off the raw power of the DC.

try Grant turismo 2 out with the official Bleem for it. compare it side by side with a PSX and you will be amazed. i had a playstaion hooked up to video 1 and a DC hooked to video 2 on my TV and i put the arcade disc in one system and the simulation disc in the other. i flipped back and forth to check details and i was amazed at how much the Dreamcast improved the game.

i dont know of any homebrew games, but i seem to remember reading that test drive le mans hit the highest poly count. i could be wrong but i think the article said it pushed 7 million polygons? try test drive le mans out and look at the details on the cars and the weather.

I have tried all of the bleem! discs they are great. This weekend ill try the 2 system check.

And I love racing games so Daytona USA and test drive le mans will be played!

Shenmue looks good also. how long does that one take to beat?

I also played Resident Evil Code Veronica on the gamecube and it was allright. Im guessing its much better on the DC.

you could beat shenmue pretty fast if you tried. i think it took me well over a month though

code veronica is probably the same on cube as far as graphics go. the only way it might look better on the DC is on VGA?

I don't think there exists a game that fully pushes the dc hardware.

I must say that I loved the view of Space Race through vga on my full hdtv this afternoon. I always play in vga, but I don't like racers all that much so I hardly ever put em on, but the kid wanted to play it so...
in the end I was more paying attention to how nice & crisp it looked as to paying attention to the game itsself
