going to replace my gd rom drive and am curious if it is the drive that disallows cdr backups or if it is the console itself
basically wondering if swapping out the drive will allow me to still play cdr games

I THINK the mil-cd code is present in the GD controller board, not in the bios, but i'm not sure...

If i'd know how to and if i'd have the necessary tools to debug hardware, i'd tell you
Lots of people say it's in the bios, and most other people say it's in the gd controller board.

Bios.
It was "rev-a" that allowed the Dreamcast to boot off a CD. This revision was not meant for production, but for game developers to allow them to create games for the release deadline being the Dreamcast was not actually in production as of yet.
