I just got my first Dreamcast a few days ago after realizing what I have been missing for all these years, and right now im having some game issues. After learning what programs to get to burn the games, what CD's to get, how to burn them, bla bla bla, i thought i was set but for some reason im having a lot of trouble getting these games to work. The CDI files burn nicely in disk juggler but when i pop them in to play they just don't start. It shows the logo, you hear some little noises from the Dreamcast, and then it goes to the Dreamcast menu. When i hit play game it says to put in a CD. So what am i doing wrong? Why does it burn nicely but cant start up? I have used 5 CD's already and i really don't wanna waste anymore unless i know its going to work.

On a side note, i got a bundle of burned games with my Dreamcast and i have tried to contact the guy who sold it to me but hes not really helping, at all.

ok
STEP 1 Look at the back of your DREAMCAST. Check the laser number if it is a 2 you will require a utopia boot disk. if it is a one or zero you do not.

STEP 2
if you have a 1 or zero laser then this method will work. FIRST DOWNLOAD A DCRES RELEASE. how to get one of those easy. My suggestion is charge and blast since its small. the image will be made by meh boi tuxthewise.

STEP 3
After downloading the image (it will be in cdi) go to diskjuggler. go to advance

MODE:2
BLOCK:2336
TOC: CD-XA

then go to the normal spot put the speed to lowest possible then hit burn.
pop it in the dreamcast.

if same thing happens then you need to calibrate the lens

How can you tell what the lazer number is? I went to go look and i cant see it anywhere there. I also forgot to mention that i have disk juggler 6 and not 3.5, i hear that's what you need for it to really work. Where do i get it if i need it?

Hey guys, I was trying to help him on DCisozone too, but I just can't find DJ 3.5 for the life of me. I had it downloaded but I must have thrown it away...

well heres the thing, as far as i know they all do, but some of them dont like to start right away. Some games like MDK 2 take a lot of trys to get it to run, but then games like power stone 2, i just put it in and im in right after the starting screen and i dont have to try 20 times. Its odd, but they all work perfectly when they do run. My games on the other hand NEVER run at all no matter how many times i boot it.

And yes Anthony has been trying to help to, aperantly disk juggler 3.5 has vanished :S i hope that isn't true. Are you sure theirs no way to do it on 6?

unfortunately the only way i could help trouble shoot this problem is to know what image you used and then i would have to test it. sometimes people made non self booting images. most of the ones today are self booting though. as far as the number on your DC question, doesn't matter! you already proved that your DC can play a burned game. onto settings for DJ, the default settings will almost always work. in the past i use to select a bunch of option that people told me to try and in almost every case they were unneeded options. there may be a handful of games that require you to tamper with the default settings though.

what game are you trying to play atm and where did you get it? if it is from here and is a DCers file we can rule out a bad image. im betting that your laser is messed up. only problem with that theory is that you can play the game you have received with the DC and that none of the new burns work at all?

Well as far as i know i can play them all, i got a lot of burned games, a lot. I have only had the DC for a day or so so i haven't had time to get to them all, i have tried 10 at least because i get caught up in some. As for where i got them. I got them mostly at a place called cool rom, and i just got one from dcisozone now, maybe i should test that one?
