Swap Trick Without Swapping.

I found out that you can do the swap trick without swapping any cords.
Note: I was using a Phone to audio cable but it would work with a live line as well.
If your modem has two ports, it should work.
You plug in your live line into the port your \DreamCast isn't using sometimes there is a symbol of a telephone on it.
Then it works and you don't have to swap at all.

ok you lost me here. the cord that needs to be swapped is the one that goes into the Dreamcast. not the one that goes into the DC-PC server. am i missing something here?
are you suggesting that we swap it with the PCs "phone" line? in either case you still have to swap the lines on the Dreamcast modem. but it is great news. if you have a modem with the proper jacks you wouldn't need a home phone or an MP3 file.

No you got it wrong.
If your modem on your pc has two ports plug your live cord/audio cord into that one, then no switching cords at all, no messing cords. Cords stay still no touchy

oh oh oh, i get it

. nice discovery.

i wish i knew about that a long time ago. swapping out the cords is a pain in the ass.
so you run the cord from your audio source to the phone line on the modem. and then run another one from the modem to your Dreamcast.
nice, what made ya think to try that? i wish i could test this on my server but its in storage for a few days

I always wondered why there was a second port, and that I remembered a memory.
I was with my grandma at her office, and she get getting disconnected or something because the phone would ring and it auto answered, so she told me to unplug it, and well there ya have it.

very cool, this makes the swap trick even easier. i wonder if this will help us reach the quake 3 master list? i was lucky to get the master list a handful of times. who knows, maybe this will ease in reaching it?

I don't know but it would be really really nice if we could reach it.
At the moment I use this on my pc to find how many players are in the server.

Well I tried it and it worked. The only problem is it kept my phone line busy so I couldn't leave it plugged in. So I might as well keep using the swap trick.

I am able to reach the list every time with linux PC-DC. It must have something to do with ports, because I've been using t he swap method to connect. Which BTW, i agree is incredibly annoying. I would do as xlink just suggested, except my modem has only one port.

Sweet!
If my modem is Linux compatible I am going to try doing Linux PC-DC Server.
I have to use Schthack's DNS Server to connect with Quake 3, will I be able to connect without it on Linux?
Also, on a side not its strange:
When I connect with a Windows 98 PC-DC Server, using Quake 3, in the status it says connected to dreamcastÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
