Dreamcast Gun lockout-bypass?

Hey guys, I understand that the official dreamcast light gun is designed specifically not to work with american releases. I was just wondering if anyone thinks there might be a workaround for this? It makes me think of the NES: The security lockout chip prevents it from playing unlicensed games. This can cause malfunction, in which case you'd disable the chip. There must be something similar for the dreamcast light gun. If the game and gun both need to communicate with each other, they must have some information to exchange, which should be stored on a chip.
Anyone here have a technical background? Tell me what you think.

... All of dreamcast hardware is region free so the lightguns should work no problem. if its not working then its probalby broken. and no don't tell me that hardware only works with its region. i own Twinstick Nstc-j and wheel nstc-j both official on a ntsc-u dreamcast and it work FINE

Yeah, they lied to you. All accessories are region free. Im using a japanese bba. Works like a charm.
The only thing the lightgun isnt compatible with is NON crt monitors/tvs.

Hang on, did you guys not know about Columbine? They locked out all official light guns from US releases so that they wouldn't get sued.

Anyhow, does anyone have any ideas? Maybe someone who owns the gun could take a picture of the circuitry?

:: enters the hardware dork ::
There is no reigon lockout.
Sega simply didn't release "official" sega lightguns state-side. Instead the Mad Katz phaser looking thing was "licensed" (iirc) by sega.
If your looking for a proper functional light gun, I can vouch for a few, and tell you which to avoid like an std.

I know for a fact that there is a lockout. I have read from several sources that the game will refuse to boot, stating that the gun is incompatible.

Iirc thats possibly only when using the official sega white light guns, but why would you want that gun? You would have to import it, and there are far better options.
