How can I bettter my PSO dreamcast bba connection?

So for those who I havn't played online with, i have a reoccuring problem when playing PSO online here.

I use the supplied dc-talk disc with a dreamcast & broadband adapter, and followed the guide, having my system setup via the XDP disc for bba support.

I don't think its hardware flaws or software, as I've tried two systems, two different bba's, and a few copys / redownloads of the game .cdi file.

Basically, whenever I'm the host of a game (i'm alone in a game), and someone joins it, I lockup and crash.

After sitting with both of my systems back-to-back, both online, with both characters capable of seeing each other in the lobby, I was successful of joining my own game 1/6 of the time.

The other 5/6 of the time;

~The character that is the "host" is frozen in place and after a minute or so, is sent back to the title screen of the game.

~The character that joins is frozen in loading, looking at the Hunters Guild room tower thing, and is eventually sent back to the lobby.

Obvious attempts at rushing this lockout (turning off the system for example) typically result in complete meseta lost from backpack, and all items not equipped lost from backpack.

Now I always assumed that this was due to me having just average internet speed. My internet is actually pretty fast, and with this game, and private, not overly-populated servers, it shouldn't really be that...

I recall that the XDP disc had alot of settings when regards to connections, but the guide here suggested just leaving everything on auto, is that still the way to go?

Is there anything I can do to halt this problem? I'd love to be able to host a stable game instead of relying of others to make for me. :|

Thanks in advance for any help!

PSO requires more good latency than raw speed. Dont forget that pso was designed and meant to be playing on dial up.

If you are really far away from the host (netherlands) no matter how fast if your internet, you are gonna cause FSOD.

Run a ping test to the server (windows key+r, type in "cmd", then "ping 217.23.1.98") and share the results please.

Sent and received 4 packets, 0% loss
Approximate roun d trip times in milli-seconds:
minimum = 136ms, maximum = 149ms, average = 141 ms

That was from my computer here, I don't know if you meant to do that on the server via my dreamcast keyboard? There is no windows key on my keyboard, just s1, s2, and s3 in its place.

If it makes any difference, my computer is a wireless netbook, and I'm using frontier as my provider.

I use bba and its connected to the wireless modem box thingy that verizon / frontier supplied for service, not to my computer.

I see. And what ping do you see when you are checking the server masterlist on quake 3 for this server?

I had been playing quake on a friends custom server, let me try and join the dc-talk server real quick.

When trying to use the dc-talk ip for quake 3 server, it says that there is no response from master server... I'll try a few times just incase.

edit;

So i tested to make sure I was actually online other than just my m8's server, so I put in 0.0.0.0 for reference, and saw a dreamcast talk game open there, with our i.p. address being listed. I was able to join that game, but it removed my Macabre name (noname). Why i couldn't directly connect to this with the dctalk i.p. address is baffling.

I can connect when all my settings are 0.0.0.0, and from there I can see all available servers/games/ect. I see from there the dc-talk game, which I was able to join, and verify that I was on the dc-talk server by the banner;

<a href="http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/ ... .98:27960/" target="_blank"><img src="http://cache.www.gametracker.com/server ... 0_95_1.png" border="0" width="560" height="95" alt=""/></a>

But when I put in that ip address exclusively instead of 0.0.0.0, it says that there is "no response from master server".
