VGA Cable Not Working

Can anyone help? I sold a new and unused VGA Cable to someone in Portugal and it does not appear to be working. The buyer says that he is getting a purple image but was not more specific. It was ten years old after all but had not ever been used.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or what indeed the problem may be? I have offered to give him a full refund but in his words, he would rather have the VGA working than the refund! Obviously if it is faulty and cannot be fixed I will refund in any case but looking to the experts for some advice please?

ask him what he is trying to use the cord on. is it a TV set a computer monitor or a projector? see if he can supply the make and model of the monitor.

also ask him if he is able to test the VGA cord on another monitor. preferably an older CRT PC monitor. he has to remember that the VGA cord is meant to put out 480p, 640x480 resolution. so if his new monitor can't handle that low of resolution that could be why its not working?

Roman,

Troubleshooting:
1. Green pin may not be shorted out/not soldered correctly.
2. Verify you have to set the input to VGA/RGBHV.
3. What Garyb said.

I just bought one of those cables from ebay.uk less than a week ago. My audio/video technician will be pinning-out my VGA cable when I get mine. He'll be testing it with the Extron VTG-300R prior to me attaching it to my monitor via the Dreamcast.

I'll let you know how that goes.
