Games that support VGA but look like hell

Certain graphics just look bad by nature in VGA, but there are definitely games out there you'd think would shine, but fall flat.

I'll start with Resident Evil 2. Ah, what a disappointment. Mainly it's the textures and titles going blocky, fire, blood, etc. The characters aren't too bad and the colors are quite vivid. But alas, overall it is horrible. I was excited to try it in VGA too. At least it looks awesome in s-video.

By "support" I mean it runs, not necessarily labelled as such.

i pretty much liked everything in VGA vs S-vid or composite. sure sometimes it made the image so clear that i noticed graphical flaws more but that doesn't mean that i liked the muddy looking graphics on composite. the games that will look the worst are those ports of N64 and some PS1 games. next would probably the windows CE ports.

Yeah, composite is awful.

As I play through this, I'm having a change of heart. The graphical presentation is something new, it's a new experience to this game. I think I got caught up in expectations, which is never a good approach. The strength of the color is really, really nice, and the weak aspects I was bellyaching about are actually not at all frequent.

I don't even want to bother trying Resident Evil: Nemesis with the VGA. I'm gutted that Code Veronica doesn't support it. Even UEFA Striker and Sega Bass Fishing support the VGA. Shadowman apparently only supports a VMU.

Yeah, Code Veronica is incredible in VGA.

I got some time to finish the first half of RE2. There really isn't a ton of sloppiness. Fortunately, I would imagine this is about as janky as you can expect, following up what Gary said...it's an old-ass game, every port right up to the pc was built off ps1, and it's a Windows CE game to top it off.

Still the best version. VGA does reveal the nice work of boosting the backgrounds as much as possible for PC/Dreamcast, then halting character improvement to match those backgrounds nicely. If only it had the Dolby!

I'm with Gary B, I never saw a game look bad in VGA from the DC.
