Sega hiring R&D...

I heard of the news a couple of weeks ago that Microsoft allegedly was hiring R&D people. So people started speculating that Microsoft was beginning on their next console. Well, I was curious and hoping to see if Sega was getting back into the hardware business and i went to their official under "careers" and they have 10 openings for Sega of America. Here is the link but the thing that stuck out to me was that they require that the person...

" Demonstrated knowledge of several of the following platforms, with specific programming experience of more than one: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, PSP, PS2 and DS.
AND
"Experience with a variety of 3rd part middleware applications, such as Havok or Unreal Engine3."
If you know anything about Unreal 3, then you know it was just debuted and blogs over the internet have been raving at how realistic the graphics are. Read the ENTIRE description, some people might say this is stretching the truth, but I think this is pretty legit.
AND
The first line of the job description reads " Work within an internal R&D team providing programming support and leadership to other programmers with a primary focus on incubating/prototyping."
Enjoy

Sega still makes games, I'm assuming they are just wanting to make another.

Well, here is the link for the Xbox incubation. I still think Sega might be working on a lot of consoles. Dreamcast games are selling well on XBLA and PSN. And everyone saw those Dreamcast t-shirts they were selling at that video game conference. Even people around the entertainment arena say sega is up to something. I mean they can deny and deny nothing is going down. But thats their job to keep their mouth shut. I mean isn't this the best time to attack your opponents when they are at their weakest?

-Nintendo isn't sure if Wii2 will come out, unless its innovative
-Microsoft is doing alright with Kinect, but you see they are hiring for the next gen console
-Sony is having problems with piracy on its console
This seems like a good time to join in the hardware business. I know the economy ain't the greatest but its gradually coming back slowly.

There are too many xbox, ps and nintendo fans to create a fourth competitor, there just aren't enough sega fans these days that will buy a sega console instead of wii2 or whatever.
Another thing is that there aren't any huge sega games that will make people buy their console, like metal gear solid for sony or halo for microsoft, what games do sega have? yakuza? sonic?
I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see sega making a new console...

i agree, this might be a bigger hurdle than raising the funds for a new system. we are talking about Sega here though. if any company can come up with a unique new game it is them.

But think about it. They don't have to think of any new games. They just continue the sequels that they already started. Crazy Taxi 3, Shenmue 3, Chu Chu rocket 2, Jet grind radio 2. And then add games that are popular today to the library like call of duty and other multi-platform games. I think sega can come back.

I still strongly feel that the only way they will ever have a huge revival impact in any gamers heart is to stop making re releases and past references completely.
Re release bundles of console games? Far too many compilations of genesis erra (to an irritating degree!), their attempt at a dreamcast one is rubbish (imo), and what of the saturn era?
How much would the hype have been for sonic episodes on the Wii had there not been like 10 games after sonic adventure 2?
NiD on saturn is still my #1 fav game, and I love the new one on Wii. The gap in years made me really want it, even if it is a sub-par game compared to the original.
Now what would happen if Sega were to stop releasing games featuring their "all-stars" for five years?
Honestly if Sega had any marketing inelegance, they would do just that, and then build those all-stars their respective games back for a console launch.
That would sell, to anyone and everyone who ever liked any of those specific character in the past.
Current generation (2011), we are far too over sensitized to what sega has to offer. Some good games, far too many mediocre. They can only get away with that ratio if its on their own system and the good games are popular enough to keep sale #'s high.
[ this from a sega fan boy who has been as loyal to sega since master system - i disrespect 90% of sega releases past 2005 ]

I guess I feel you on the whole idea that Sega just keeps posting the same stuff over and again like street fighter games. I guess I'm tired of seeing the same watered down sonic games. It's getting as bad as the power ranger tv shows. Go from fighting to dinosaurs, to galactic, to who knows what they have now. They need to create a new character who can revive sega. Sonic held sega down in the 90's now they need a new character, someone to rival mario.

It's too bad EA made their move on NFL games. ESPN NFL 2K5 is brilliant and would have made a great foundation for mass Sega appeal.
EA got surpassed, completely schooled in fact, to this day in many ways. It's no wonder they bought the whole deal. Kind of a bitch move really.
