recent trouble with sd card reader, anyone else having this?

So when i finished the ones I made a while ago, I was all amused with the project but then set it all aside while perusing other work.

Whey I first finished them, all was working fine (I made three in various forms). All 3 worked.

This morning I decided to give a few homebrews a try that I had never played before (quake simpsons, new halflife mod), as well as put under defeat on to look for lag comparisons to the real deal.

Now my sd card readers are not working. I can get to the file managing folder, but can not select the games (I can select them, but nothing seems to be happening).

The hardware is fine, i'm confident in that. I recently formatted the card to fat32. I'm using dreamshell 4.0, and have tried loading the .cdi's from the root folder as well as placing them all in the DS folder.

I'm going to try reformatting my card, but don't think that is the flaw, as I did this only moments ago when putting the games on the card.

I removed the rip tool as I have no use for it currently.

I feel like I'm missing something very obvious... Any ideas?

If they worked before then that's weird, it is known that some dreamcast models require some capacitors to be removed in order to get full speed of the serial port bt it should work fine with them...

I can tell you almost with certainty that Half-Life will not work, it is a Windows CE game, and therefore not supported yet, if it will ever be.

As far as Under Defeat, not sure if that has been tested or not yet. Keep in mind that retail games are not the goal here, nor were they ever promised to work. It seems that they are just a perk, as the serial port has about a 5mbps transfer rate.

Get some realy small homebrews like Nester or something.

Also, I think you need to check out Swat's English forum more and ask there, as they will be able to give you a better answer. ;)

Edit: Also you can't just put a selfbooting CDI into the SD card and it be ok, you must rename it and do other stuff to it.

I knew about renaming it and all. I was hoping to at least make it to the title screen of these games. :(

Maybe its the card, as I've been using the same 2gb card for my camera and swapping it around a lot.

Well, did you read the compatibility list Tux started there yet? I really wish I could help you more, but I haven't got mine yet, so no help here. :(

All I know is it is touch and go with this, some games work and others do not.

Try Vigilante 8, Skies of Arcadia, Head Hunter or RE: Code Veronica. I think those work full speed with minimal peoblems.

I'm having a third person who's ordering them but it sure takes long...
Taobao is slow, the guy makes them manually.

Yeah, mine was sent a few weeks ago. Mine is coming here over the pacific ocean, so then it must travel overland to the center of the US, trust me, it is going to get here, but as Russia is part of Asia, it got to you much sooner. ;)

You mentioned 'cdi', don't you need to use iso format, not cdi?

I would bet against it being a hardware problem. Do you load Dreamshell itself from the SD card or do you do it all from a CD? I ask because if you do the former, and have made it in to dreamshell, then you know your SD card is working.

I've mostly stuck to home-brews and emulators on mine. To get homebrew working you might have to unscramble the 1st_read.bin if your copy is scrambled... like if you are trying to convert a selfbooting cdi and such.

I just think I botched my attempt of converting & relabeling the files, I retested it again with what I first tried (stuff posted by mych), and they work.

Is there any good tut on taking & making the proper format for this? I thought I had it but I guess I've missed something.
