Spawn & Heavy Metal...

I was looking around for manual translations for Sega rally (Wikipedia falsely has it claiming to be vs-link supporting), when I saw a fun topic. I recall hearing that Spawn: In Demon's Hand as well as Heavy Metal Geomatrix were both online playable exclusively in Japan.

What I didn't know was that Spawn was built on Capcom's own servers, and lasted online till 2003. Heavy Metal Geomatrix is also a Capcom game, so it would be safe to assume that it's online play was similar?

I was looking for links to give these games a look. Heavy Metal (J) seems to be a down link, but luckily there is an oRaR post still active containing Spawn.

Would it be difficult to obtain server information from a Capcom game? I enjoy this game, and hearing that it could be an 8 player game would be awesome (even 4v4 with just two systems!).

I also recall hearing that a game menu translation was being worked on (a very long time ago), i'm going to try and find that post, as the Japanese version had in general more content to play with (online features iirc).

Not intending to be a pest by bumping this topic, but I am curious. The forums search function doesn't show much talk about these two games.

Oh man, that Spawn game is ridiculously awesome too. It would be a blast for online multiplayer. I had no idea about that.

Interesting. Never played Spawn, but Heavy Metal was loads of fun. I'd definitely be interested in this.

Well there's the small chance that it might have a little info about the online in the binary, but with only that it is almost impossible ( very veyr hard ) to reverse engineer it. Believe me, I've tried with other games.

Check for any online like commands or strings in the game's binary, as well as the adress the game connects to and the port. You could start by setting up a dummy server and try with the commands ( if you find them that is ).

It's a very difficult task that takes time that requires ability, knowledge and in some cases without some server logs, useless....
