Hi all, I have been a Dreamcast user since the launch and love it dearly. It was the Dreamcast that made me want to pursue a career in game design. My first university degree is in Computer Arts and I worked very briefly in the games industry as a 3D artist.
My programming knowledge is basic so please excuse me if this is unachievable. Whilst I was studying at university for one of my projects I used a simple and free 3d engine called 3impact. I know people have ported games to the Dreamcast but would it be possible to port an engine to the dreamcast? I have been waiting for a 3D engine for the dreamcast for years so I can put my 3d skills to use on the Dreamcast.
have a look at: http://www.3impact.com/

Me too me too ...I have been waiting for a 3D engine for the dreamcast for years
Requires DirectX® 9.0c. i think that is the problem, all dc scene have lack of 3d coders so there is so afew 3d stuff for Dreamcast.have a look at: http://www.3impact.com/
there is very good looking and promising 3d engine http://www.cubicvr.org/ and it can be compiled for dc at this time already.

anonymouse: I suggest you send Reticon a msg, I think perhaps they can make use of your skills for Tahi (since thats going to be the first "real" 3D indie game on the DC)

Re: 3D engine for Dreamcast.
Hi mazonemayu. Thanks for your reply. I would love to join a team but unfortunitely I fear I may not be any use to them as I work offshore as a marine engineer and 95% of the time we dont have an internet connection. I was hoping for a 3D engine where I could make a small 3D environment on my own. Ive had a look at CubicVR 3D engine and left a message over there. hopefully that will be promising.

More of us should voice our thoughts on wanting a DC port of CubicVR over on their forums: http://www.cubicvr.org/index.php?option ... 82&catid=5

Re: 3D engine for Dreamcast.
I see you gave a shoutout for us here and at dcisozone.
I will create an account and post on that message board in my support for this engine. Also I will post a link to my sd adapter tutorial so they can see what the devices are.
Edit: Thanks for linking this engine Vasiliy, the possibilities with this are endless my friend!

Re: 3D engine for Dreamcast.
here is a link to a post I made over at Dreamcast-Scene on how to buy an SD Card Reader : http://www.dreamcast-scene.com/communit ... =24&t=4254
Anthony: I think we should really try hard to get this on the Dreamcast. This would be massive. Ive only got 2 weeks time I go to sea, so i can only voice my support until then.

Re: 3D engine for Dreamcast.
Ok, I will push as hard as I can and will keep on his case to get this ported. You can see in the thread I created at dcisozone I posted the 3 videos he made running on Dreamcast hardware.
We already have a ton of supporters from that page alone. I think once he sees that he will understand how big of a deal it is to fully port this engine to the DC.

@Vasiliy, I will try as hard as I can to get this pushed out the door for us as soon as possible. I will do what I know how to do best, post a lot and spread the news!

Re: 3D engine for Dreamcast.
Hey Anthony. Keep up the good work. i think a news post on the homepage of one of the major Dreamcast sites would be a great way to advertise this. Ill make a post over at DCEMU when its back on as I managed to get my SD card reader how-to-buy tutorial featured on the homepage.
