Green Lantern; viewer feedback

Post by DCUltrapro »

hey gang, so I'm really looking forward to this one and I wondered if any of you have seen it yet, I'm hearing mostly bad reviews on Rotten Tomatoes but quite frankly I don't care I like to make up my own mind.

So I wanted to know what some fellow geeks/nerds video game fans thought of it so far. It seems that the positive reviews so far (and there are plenty of them) say it has great production values, good performances, excellent 3d transfer and some aweome action etc, while others are moaning that it is disjointed and too similar to other properties and that the exposition of the story is a bit long.

Personally I don't care if its a formula that has been used slightly before, at the end of the day if the story is good and the acting is fine (ie not terrible) then I'm very likely to enjoy it!

Anyway as and when you guys see it I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. And honestly if you genuinely don't enjoy it I won't be annoyed, everyones opinion counts so its cool, just please don't spoil any story points for me if you have seen it! lol

Look forwarding to hearing peoples opinions

I for one am gonna go watch it the day it comes out over here, this is one of the few (the other one being The Flash) superheroes that I've been wanting to have their own film for at least 30 years now ;)

I concur whole heartedly! I've been waiting for them to make one for ages, I haven't read much of the green lantern comics but I do read comics and I know of the Lantern and the Mythology fascinates me. However I feel I can't bring myself to read a comic if it started ages ago and I have no hope of reading it from the beginning lol. Let me know what you think when you do, I'm hoping to see it next week

I'd also be interested to know what people who are big fans of the comic think? From what I've heard they seem to think it suffers from too much exposition about the story, and that Ryan Reynolds is a bit wooden but honestly I don't really care, I love a well told story and don't mind being told more about the universe/setting of the film as long as its not attrociously bad like The Last Airbender or 10,000bc or XXX I'll be happy

I'm a long time reader of the comics and I hated it. Reynolds was miscast as Hal Jordan, he only did what he did best - played Ryan Reynolds. Which isn't always a bad thing, just wasn't right for this role.

A lot of things were wrong with it, but I think story execution was the biggest problem. It just wasn’t very engaging at all. At so many points I was just thinking “can we hurry it up already?” because I was so bored and disinterested.

Overall the movie just wasn’t very memorable. It was underwhelming. It felt like such a wasted opportunity and could have been so much more.

It's about as bad as The Last Airbender in my book. Total pass until rental/Netflix, don't waste money on a movie ticket.

I wouldn't say I hated it, but I think that the rough time it received from the critics made me lean towards a more disappointed opinion. I think if I watch it again in a few years having been working under the impression that I really disliked it then when I watch it again I will probably be impressed.

Possible Spoilers here in:

I enjoyed the movie on the whole but there were several things I found let it down. these are:

The time spent on OA was SOOOO short it was an utter piss take. They should have spent far more time developing Hal on OA and on Earth before Paralax arrived.

Whenever Reynolds donned the mask it was like a joke being made against the franchise. Not because its reynolds, but because he is such a witty and cheeky guy I just couldn't take him seriously. And the bits where he took the piss out of his own "Super Hero" status by being flippent with the bird when he saves her etc, made me just feel like I shouldn't take it seriously either.

His constructs were pretty lame and just didn't get me going at all. Even the final one where he punches Paralax with a giant green fist into the sun just made me snigger a little.

The OST was appauling, it had no grandeur, no sense of doom or danger and when Green Lantern appeared the music was just soo lack luster it just dropped me right out of the experience every time.

It was too short

Not enough Sinestro on screen

The character and story in general should have been taken more seriously

Up until he first puts the outfit on I was actually really enjoying the film

In summary, I hope they release a directors cut with expanded dialogue and scenes etc. The film was ok but could have been soo much better had they tried to make it more serious and given him more impressive constructs. the bloody ramp and wheels to stop the helicopter was just god awful. The best bit in the film I found was when he was fighting Paralax on earth and it actually looked like it mattered and he had to muster strength etc.

But hey this is just me

there is one that I saw, I'm gonna just go and buy the blue ray extended version personally, I really need to see it again in the comfort of my home as the cinema showing was a bit rubbish, little scroats sat next to me giggling every time the lantern is on the screen lol

Both of these are spam bots i believe. I do think that their posts should remain up because they are quite funny. but i do think that you should change their sig to say spambot.

Now back on topic.

I do want to see this movie, I do not go to theaters any more because of a lot of people that go are inconsiderate, rude punks, or some one brings a infant thats constantly crying.
