Please help with fixing my official arcade stick

Post by Binos »

As you know the official arcade stick can get stuck when playing.
This is caused by the washer ring underneath the joystick being loose so normally it wont obstruct the joystick's movement.

Unfortunately this can cause the washer ring to pop out of the chamber it should stay in. I haven't got a good picture right now, I will post one when I get home.

The solution I read some where is to glue the washer ring in place or better, replace it with a different one that is slightly smaller so it won't pop out.

Hopefully you know what I'm talking about and know what to do.
I've disassembled the stick, but I can't seem to disassemble the joystick part further. I'm afraid I will break it.

it seems logical to use a screwdriver, but it will rotate the whole joystick, it doesn't seem to unscrew anything.

This official joystick is a very nice attempt by sega to make arcade perfect replication for in home gaming... but it does cut some obvious corners :D

I highly suggest checking out this two part video on an easy-to-do mod for making this thing a beast;

I've done the exact same thing with the exact same parts.

This guys guide is very well spoken and he explains everything perfectly. The total price in parts if you shop on ebay can be very affordable, especially for the quality of arcade stick you will be possessing compared to the original SEGA parts.

//// the original sega buttons are fine, you really only need to replace the joystick. I just replaced mine because I think the green looks ugly.
