Dreamcast Holiday

So I had a months holiday and decided it would be a great idea to go on a road trip around the UK. Yes, it rained nearly every fuckin day ! But hey, It was good to get away from the daily grind for a while and leave all my shit behind.

My girlfriend bought a £500 car for the trip and I bought a £15 tent lol But I had another trick up my sleeve....

At the first stop, and during torrential rain, I admitted to my other half that I'd hidden a Treamcast in the boot of the car. I expected fireworks and physical injury but, after some mild verbal abuse, she calmed down and agreed to play some Sega classics with me. How romantic is that !? ;)

Anyways, during the rest of the trip, the car was great and reliable, we met some nice people and saw some stunning scenery although the tinned food diet was a little tough to take. Oh, and I completed Headhunter for the first time since I bought it ten years ago !

PS. Wish you were here lol

It's the first time I've used the Treamcast in anger to be honest. I've had a few problems in getting it to work reliably but (touch wood) it performed flawlessly for a month so hopefully it's sorted now. They really are great fun. I took tons of games with me and it was quite surreal hearing the music to Crazy Taxi whilst driving along twisty roads in the Scottish Highlands

Everyone who saw us playing games on it took an interest and it proved quite a topic of conversation. Some young kids at one campsite, maybe 8 or 9 yrs of age, were clamouring to have a go and asked me if it played Call Of Duty  They seemed a bit disappointed when I told them it didn't, but I showed them Project Justice and they were mesmerised ! I now have this image of all these young kids in South Wales going into Gamestation and asking for Rival Schools for ps3/360 lol

One thing was made abundantly clear to me and that is that we Dreamcasters are a very small minority species nowadays. I hardly met a soul who had heard of the Dreamcast let alone played or owned one.

Phisejr, it sounds like you really need a Treamcast ! Sega GT is an awsome game to play on any form of DC. Once you ignore the fact that it is essentially a GT ripoff, it actually pisses all over Sony's offering. Anyway, I promise you that once I get hold of a black Treamcast(hopefully sooner rather than later), I'll let you have this widescreen one for peanuts. I'll keep you posted.

I'm afraid I've had to put the car up for sale. The garage owner who's selling it for me has it up for £850 and wants a 20% cut so hopefully I'll make a small profit. Still, I'll be really sad to see it go as I've grown very fond of it over the last few weeks.

To make me feel better about my daily runabout (a rusty old 4x4), I'm going to make a permanent customised Treamcast shelf for it. Or at least find someone who'll do it for me lol

It occurred to me that some folks might not have seen a widescreen Treamcast before, so here it is with a pic of our car(now sadly departed):

What car is that?
Is that a strange looking 200sx S14? :)

No, although the 200sx is a nice car too(especially for drifting ;) ).

Actually, it is a heavily modified 1996 Mazda MX6 with a 2.5 litre V6 engine. It sported a stealth body kit, lowered springs, uprated brakes and a nice 'glitter' black paint job.

Very nice looking car and great to drive especially on twisty country roads, it ate up the miles.

Thanks Anthony, it's quite an underrated motor and fairly rare.

The widescreen Treamcast looks a little ungainly when it's folded down and it's a touch unreliable but a lot of fun. I think I'll keep it and order a new power board as that's the cause of most of the problems I've had with it.
