Soinc Colors>Sonic Adventure

Today, I played Sonic Adventure on my Dreamcast for the first time in a while. After I played a few stages, I then started playing Sonic Colors on my Wii.

Let me tell you, I really hate to say this, but I thought Sonic Colors was the better game of the two.

Sonic Colors, In my opinion, was Faster, had better controls, and was above all more fun than Adventure. And the Lack of Unnecessary Playable characters and hub worlds made for a better game imo.

Sure It has the "boost" style gameplay from Unleashed (and now generations), But they balanced the constant boosting with precision platforming (unlike Unleashed). Even some of the 3D parts have great platforming moments.

People say that Sonic games were going downhill since the Sega went 3rd party (I partially agree with them in '06's case), but I think they're actually getting so much better. With Colors being as good as it is, and Generations on the horizon, I think that this could be a new Golden Era For Sonic~

Well everyone has there own preferences in games. and gameplay. then theres others who just hop the band wagon for other games that are popular. I never played sonic colours but im not a fan of Sonic Adventure Either.

I actually think sonic adventure is TOTALLY over rated.
The controls are bad, the camera is terrible (even for the time), the hub worlds are tedious, every other character other than sonic is not fun to play...
Maybe it's because I played it for the first time only a little while ago, after getting used to sly cooper, jak, rayman and other modern platformers, but I tried really hard and couldn't find anything fun about sonic adventure.

THIS times a million

Rayman 2 and Sonic Adventure 2 are better Dreamcast platformers.

When I first watched someone play Sonic Adventure back in 1999 I was stunned at how brilliant it all looked. I'd never seen anything like it ! The dolphins and THAT orca section made my jaw drop. I sat captivated thinking how fantastic it all was. I watched the whole game through to completion and really enjoyed the experience.

But years later when I tried playing the game myself, I just didn't like it. I could take it or leave it.

I totally agree that Rayman 2 is a better game. Just look at how well it's been recieved on the 3DS compared to Sonics 360 disaster.

Heck, Super Magnetic Neo beats te pants off Sonic.

Agreed. It is a good game and was a proper attempt at the "next generation" transition. But SA1 & 2 are both sonic games that I wouldn't mind forgetting.

In my massive multi-platform library of SEGA, there are only two sonic games that will never move;
1.) Sonic Jam
2.) Sonic CD

Other titles like Sonic R, Knuckles Chaotix, Adventure, Unleashed, & Riders Zero Gravity (NEVER THE FIRST ONE!), all have come and gone, and maybe repurchased just for a quick re-play. But these games are just not as good as my #1 & 2.

The sick irony is that Sonic Jam is somewhat naturally at a disadvantage, as its emulation of Sonic 2 does have some ever-so-slight slowdown. The reason I keep it instead of their cartridge forms? Sonic 3 pissed me off as a child, because I saved up so much $ to get it, and once it came out, it was a half-freakin-finished game, that I had to pay another massive pile of $ for Sonic & Knuckles to finish.

Today we all say that the sonic 3 + sonic & knuckles combo is amazing, and it really is a great game combo. But on its original release, I was the pissed off fanboy who paid full price for a single cartridge that was half the game it should have been.

Back on topic... The real honest reason I ever get the urge to play sonic adventure 1 or 2 is for the chao. I was partially interested in playing the hacked version with a Metal Sonic skin, but I just don't feel like it.

I think Sonic Riders 2 Zero Gravity would probably be my 3rd keepsys sonic game, as that underrated gem does have so much to offer for sega fans.

I still think the original Sonic Adventure is a very good game, just it's work trying to find it as it's buried beneath useless add-ons, boring adventure fields, random deaths, dodgy cameras and questionable cut-scenes.
