The reason why it was cancelled was :1. There was so much pressure by SEGA to develop a title that ultilized DC's power, that an early build overclocked NAOMI. 2. SEGA just didn't feel it was going to be successful & was more interested in fixing Sonic Adventure for its stateside release. And 3. When Namco annouced that they were developing a Soul Calibur arcade port that was being built from the ground up, which would show Dreamcast's capabilities, this took the weight off of SEGA.
Fun Fact: Geist Force was the very first game developed for Dreamcast. It was originally prototyped on "Black Belt" hardware so it used 3Dfx graphics engine.
It wasn't cancelled because of pressure to develop a title that utilized the DC's power. It was cancelled because Bernie Stolar had carte blanche around the Dreamcast launch and said the game wasn't good enough. That's it. Stolar wanted AAA games only, and he said Geist Force didn't fit the bill.
Geist Force doesn't use 3DFX tech either. If it did, it wouldn't run on ANY Dreamcast that was released in a public form. Maybe an early version of Geist Force was developed using 3DFX stuff, but the beta assembler has is not that version. It has difficulties running on Dreamcasts we have now because it was developed on ever so slightly earlier hardware than what was released that had moderately different specs.
I don't know where you get your information, but please don't spread it as fact. It's bad for everyone to have misinformation going around.
