Winning Formula ?

I've always wanted the definitive formula 1 game on DC. I even played both versions of Monaco Grand Prix offline and online back in the day. I loved the original Formula 1 World Grand Prix (made by Video Systems) and it's sequel (Formula 1 World Grand Prix 2) would have been brilliant if not for the disappointing slowdown/framerate problems that killed it.
But now I'm confused ! Another game, released in Feb 2001 (again by Video Systems), has come to my attention: F1 Racing Championship. I couldn't find it for sale in the UK (was I just unlucky or was it released only outside the UK) .........so had to order it from Italy (appropriately a BIG F1 country). In a preview on IGN it says this is the same game as World Grand Prix 2 see here:
http://uk.dreamcast.ign.com/articles/134/134707p1.html
So is this the same game ? Surely not ...... as both game got a release in Europe. Didn't they ?
No doubt when the game arrives (£11 inc p&p sealed copy) I will know the answers on whether this is the ultimate F1 racer on DC but if anyone can fill me in beforehand I'd be very grateful.
PS Apologies for the almost incomprehensible way I just wrote that post ! lol

I know there's a PAL racing game that was released under 2 different names. So chances are highly likely you ordered the same game you already have...

Some of the formula 1 games were released in different regions under different names. I think in Japan, one of the games even had the lame non descriptive title "super speed racing" or something equally unhelpful.
Come to think of it, a bunch of DC racing games had different titles in different regions. LeMans 24 Hours versus Test Drive LeMans, and V Rally versus Test Drive V Rally... although that was for publishing and branding purposes. Pod 2 versus Pod Speedzone...
Actually one that I love is the European release of Tony Hawk Pro Skater, as Tony Hawk's Skateboarding - it was funny to see that they did not keep the special Euro title for the sequels.

Damn, that what I didn't want to hear.......but exactly what I was beginning to believe myself.

^

I'm beginning to think changing the name was more the rule than the exception! Sega Europe trying to establish its own authority!

you're mixing it up with the PS version, that one had a PAL & US release

not really, the US always has changed more games names than the other regions (not just DC, but on any platform). in the past, half of the time I couldn't even find the US version of a certain game, coz it was TOTALLY different from both the PAL/JAP version of that same game

Oh, OK Mayu. It's bloody confusing this formula 1 game thing.
One thing I just read on the net was that F1 Racing Championship was a joint effort between the team that made the Formula 1 World Grand Prix games and the team responsible for the two Monaco Racing games. It was released a full 8 months after F1WGP2........so that suggests it is a different game to all previous F1 games on DC.
I'll be certain to try it out and tell you about it when it arrives. If it uses a similar game engine to F1WGP2 but without the framerate problems then it could be a very interesting addition to the racing game lineup.
