Connecting BBA via PC

I just got my BBA, and I'm having a little trouble getting it connected. I happen to live in a basement suite, so I get wireless internet from my landlords. This means that I don't have access to a router.

I'm trying to get my BBA connected through the ethernet port of my PC, but I'm not sure how. First, I tried bridging my Wireless and LAN connections, but that didn't work. Then, I tried setting my PC up to accept incoming connections, which didn't work either. I also tried disabling the firewalls of these.

Also worth mentioning is that I don't know whether my browser is properly configured since it's in heavy Japanese. I might have to try the Planetweb 3.0 browser to see if I can make any headway with that, but even then I don't know if I could configure it.

I don't know if these techniques have the potential to work and I'm just doing something wrong. I've also considered buying a wireless network adapter that pcwzrd suggested to me, but I'm tight for cash at the moment and I'd rather not wait much longer, especially since my return policy on the BBA will expire soon and I don't yet know if its functional. I don't know much about these things, so any help would be appreciated.

I can't answer your question I'm afraid (I am HOPELESS at such things !), but I was also looking for a way to avoid trailing a 25 metre ethernet cable from my DC to my wireless router, which is located at the other end of the house from my DC. I came across this:

Could one of those be the answer ? I've got a USB plug (so that's the power sorted). Can't see why it wouldn't work. Am I on the right lines or hopelessly wrong (yet again) ?

From what I understand, provided that has an ethernet jack, it should serve your purposes fine. Pcwzrd linked me to something similar, though I'd rather solve this situation by some other means than an online purchase, since my return policy will have expired by the time they arrive.

Okay, so I managed to find a cheap router locally, hoping I could plug it in through my wirelessly connected computer's ethernet port. That seems to have worked, judging by the lit "internet" light on the router. However, none of the "ethernet" lights are lit, despite being wired to a BBA that is actively trying to connect.

My current question is a little easier to answer. Do I need to configure the browser's settings beyond the default for a standard router connection? As is, I wouldn't know, because the menus are, again, in thick Japanese. I will likely have to find a working ISO of Planetweb 3.0.

If you have a copy of the US version of PSOv2, you can use that to configure the BBA (that's how I've always done it). Just go to the Website option from the main menu with the BBA plugged in, and it should let you configure it there.

That said, you will likely have to set up internet connection sharing if you want to connect through your computer. The only thing that the Internet light on your router probably means is that it detects that there's something on the other end of the ethernet cable.

I've got PSOV2 in the mail.

If the router realizes that there's something on the other end, doesn't that have to mean that it's being sent a connection? How else would it know? Also, I've read that to set up internet connection sharing, I need 2 wireless network adapters. If that were so, why does my computer even have an ethernet output?

Ethernet has ways of auto-negotiating things such as the connection type and whatnot else like that (I really don't know a good way of explaining this without getting too bogged down on technical crap that I was taught in my networks-related courses at the university). That's how it knows that there's something on the other end.

Unless you configure the computer to share the network connection from the wireless onto the wired port, the computer will effectively treat them as two separate networks with separate resources on them. The computer won't share the wireless connection unless you set it up that way (as that would be completely and totally insecure to do it that way).

You should be able to set up effectively a bridged connection in Windows between the wireless and the wired sides. How you would go about this, unfortunately, I do not know. In Mac OS X, it is exceedingly easy however, so I can't imagine it being terribly difficult on Windows.

I think I've done this before. If I'm correct, I just need to highlight the two networks, right click, and click "bridge connections". Does this sound plausible?
