Sega Marine Fishing - Cannot use Powell

Hi,
I posted this in the Lounge but it is a game specific issue so unsure if that should get posted here. Question is:
I am wondering if you might be able to help me. I've been playing SMF and have about 200 items. I started out using Powell (by default) and at some point switched to using the Captain and then to Masala. I now seem to be stuck using one of those two guys. I can't switch back to Powell, and I think this is impeding me from unlocking Powells' items.
The only P specific items I have are 1 powell cap and 1 powell t-shirt. But Selecting those and a basic rod will not bring me back to Powell. Any ideas?
