Good night users of Dreamcast-Talk.
Before anything,
My name is Alexandre I'm a 18year old guy from Portugal and I'm a really big fan of Sega and the Dreamcast.
For sometime now I wanted to connect my Dreamcast online once more.
I used to play back in the golden days of the DC lifespan.
Phantasy Star Online, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Alien front Online and Planet Ring (with a dial-up connection)

Well, getting to the subject.
First of all, I know that this is a little stupid to ask since theres a lot of guides on the forums. But let me just say that after reading some of them I didn't really understand if what I had was enought to connect my Dreamcast online.
(maybe because I'm really not a pc expert and don't understand some terms or not an english native speaker)
So I was hoping someone could help me out.

Well like you would expect I have a

Code: Select all

Sega Dreamcast console;
Dreamcast modem (model A/Pal Region);
a Laptop with a RJ-11 (for one telephone line) and a RJ-45/ethernet;
I have a wireless router (with internet speed of 20mb/s);
XDP web Browser;
a phone cable (rj11);
and games like PSO, Quake and planet Ring.
Would this be enought to set a DC-PC?

I really would be thankful if someone helps me out here since I never done this before.
Thanks for the time.

- Alex

It should be enough to setup a PC-DC server connection if your laptop's modem is compatible. Unfortunately you can't be sure about that until you try it out.

I guess you are right but to be sure,
I have to connect one end of my phone cable to my Dreamcast modem and the other end to the RJ11 laptop port and then just follow a guide on how to configure my Dreamcast with my PC?

You might have some good dial up ISP options in Portugal.

Let's just say that I can't have a dial up ISP atm.
So my only solution is really a DC-PC.

My big doubt is,
Do I really have to connect the RJ11 from the Dreamcast's modem to my router or can I connect it to the phone port on my laptop and with that share the internet acess that I have on the computer?

You can't connect the rj-11 to the router. You will have to connect to the laptop and share that internet connection. You're going to need to have full access to your network though because you will have to forward ports in order to play online games.

I've seen routers with Rj45 and Rj11 ports but,
That's great news.
Ill start using this.
