it's because you're playing burned discs. DC is not region-free.

Before I answer your question...
1. Please learn how to use a search engine (eg Google) before you make a new thread. Chances are you won't even have to ask your question any more because you will have already found the answer yourself.
2. Please reread your posts before posting them and / or use a spell checker. It makes reading your posts more pleasant.
No, the Dreamcast is not region free. Playing original import games directly on a non-chipped console won't work. You'll need to chip it, or alternatively use a boot disc. DC-X is very good to boot original import games, but won't work for backups. Utopia also works for backups. Check for the latest version for best compatibility.
Yes, you will be able to play most backups without a chip, simply because they are self-bootable. Meaning the security boot file is burnt on the disc with the game. Games that are not self-bootable require a boot disc like Utopia.

hmm ok. i see, i just thought its funny to play PAL games on A NTSC console. and all other going around and useing chips and mod there soft where and stuff. if this stuffs are not needed and you just need to burn a cd then why do ppl do this? cuz they are lazy to put in a cd and replace it whit the game or?

because some of us really enjoy collecting actual legit games and playing those instead of downloading/burning everything.

Not sure if I understood correctly, but while the DC can reproduce selfboot discs or a boot disc to then boot burned or imported games, doesn't mean that the other consoles can do that too, that's why the need of using chips or other kinds of mods in those cases.

The Dreamcast is probably the only console in video game history that is capable of playing unlicensed games without any hardware or software modifications, and that functionality is arguably the Dreamcast's biggest design flaw.

It's not that black and white. Things rarely are...
