Model 2 games on Dreamcast possible?

Post by segata sanshiro »

I'm playing some Model 2 emulation and thinking, Would there be a way to hack them and bring them to the DC. I wrote hack because, we might have a working emulator (or something) already on the DC. Dynamite Cop 2 is a model2 game and is arcade perfect on the DC, on one hand we might have a working M2 code, on the other we could have a port with a completely rewritten code... but, Dynamite Cop 2 isnt even the hottest M2 game and i dont think SEGA would remake it from scratch.

Lets just take all of the above as a conspiracy, then what about Virtua Cop 2 on the DC? It looks to me as a perfect arcade port, not a remake.

There are lots of GREAT (if not the best) games on the M2, stuff like Daytona, Sega Rally, Dead or Alive, Manx TT Superbike, Motor Raid, Pilot Kids, Virtua Fighter 2, V Cop 1+2, Gunblade NY, Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, Indy 500, Over Rev, Zero Gunner, Rail Chase 2, SEGA Ski Super G, SEGA Touring Car, The House 1... man, the pinnacle of arcades (well, actually the pinnacle is NAOMI, but anyway).

What do you guys think??

Indeed that would be really cool to have this on the Dreamcast instead of another computer/console.

would love it. Now we just need to find some smart dudes to tell us how the Smash Pack did it w/ Virtua Cop 2.

As for the smash pack, it probably helped that Sega had the source code :)

Yeah, and even then it wasnt a perfect translation (though perhaps a result of using Win CE to port the game over).

Also, Dynamite Cop on DC isn't a direct port of the M2 version. The entire game's presentation was completely redone using NAOMI software to visually update the game on Dreamcast hardware. DC on DC ultimately would serve as the basis for what would become Deka EX on the NAOMI platform. So yeah, Sega AM division did rewrite game. It wasn't just a straight port from arcade to console.

Wasn't Virtua Cop 2 just a straight port of the Windows version?

Also, Fighting Vipers was a Model 2 game. It would be awesome if we could get an arcade version of HOTD running on DC, that would be something!

So we have so far:
- Dynamite Cop (Menu was redone, but the game might still have the M2 code)
- Virtua Cop 2 (Possibly a windows port, not M2)
- Fighting Vipers 2 (eh, it was a model 3 game, not model 2).

Anyway, the architecture of the M2, M3, NAOMI is very similar, an evolution, building upon the previous generation. The simple fact that we got Deka and VCop2 shows that it was possible without much effort. So its not like trying to emulate the xbox360 on the DC.

What other Model2 games were ported to windows back in the day?

Sega Rally i think, not sure though. Others?
