Dreamcast December 2000 - How can i be sure?..

..That it doesnt play burned CDRs?
I followed this tutorial precisely and burned the disc at the slowest speed with verification afterwards.
First i burned half life to a disc, and then a copy of Powerstone from reviveDC. Neither of them worked. Just started the music player on boot and then in the menu said "please insert cd" when i tried to press play. I know some people have issues with this, and i am just wondering if i should adjust the laser, or leave it? Is it possible i burned it wrong?
Can all the dreamcasts play backups and its just a matter of calibrating the laser and using the right burning method and right cd:s, or are there really dreamcasts that cannot play backups no matter what you do?
Thanks, and sorry for a question you are probably fed up with. Im new to this dreamcast thingy. But i have googled my a** off and cant really find anyone with proper answers. Everything comes across to me as guesses and theories.
