as of this afternoon I get this msg when I start up one of my dreamcasts. the disk spins, but I have the impression that it spins slower than it should. could the engine or lens have died? I know how to replace one, but I need to know what is broken first

Well, the whole upper assembly houses both pieces. I'd recommend swapping it out. This fixed my problem (bad motor).

never mind, just callibrated my lens & it works fine again
