300 NES Games on a Dreamcast Disc

I thought I'd share a little story with you all about an experience I had at a flea market about 10-11 years ago. Back then, I was just getting into retro consoles and I wanted any old system I could get my hands on. I saw an NES at a flea market and I asked the guy how much it was. He said it was $25, but he said that I shouldn't buy it because the cartridges were hard to clean. I told him I had experience cleaning Genesis carts and he said NES carts were much worse. He then told me he had a Dreamcast disc full of 300 NES games and offered to demonstrate it for me. I said "sure" and he plugged in a little CRT TV, hooked up a Dreamcast, turned it on and after the usual DC loading screen I saw a long list of games show up on the screen. He scrolled down to Super Mario Bros. 3 and gave me the controller. I remember the game looking quite good and the controller worked fine. I think I played just the first level. While I was impressed, I still wanted the actual NES, so I went against his advice and bought the 30 year old Nintendo console from him.

Looking back, I wish I would've bought the Dreamcast disc instead. I don't hate the NES or anything, but I'm not attached to it, unlike the Dreamcast. Anyone else have a similar experience? What would you have done: bought the NES or the NES emulator for DC?

Well, I downloaded and burned an NES emulator with games 12 years ago, and I barely even use my NES anyways, so...

I'll tell you what I have done...

Import a US NES so I have games at full speed and full screen. Mod it with Viletim's RGB board. Open the extra audio channel. Divide the audio channels to create 'fake' stereo. Buy an N8 flash cartridge.

It's the total package... 8-)

Although admittedly it cost me more than 25 bucks...
