Issues with Windows 7 DC-PC Connection

Hello, trying to do a DC-PC connection through ubuntu vmware with a PCI Agere Winmodem. Followed the guide very carefully but I'm getting the following message in the logs. Anyone know where I'm going wrong?

PCI modems tend to not work that great with vm software. Do you have a voltage inducer? Your best bet is to make a voltage inducer with usb modem

Are you dialing on the system before taking the modem off the hook?
