Tape squeal

Okay, so one day I decided to pop my Heart tape into my cassette player, and suddenly...

blood comes gushing from my ears. Okay, not really, but the tape started to squeak HORRIBLY. And it sucks, 'cuz that's one of my favourites! >:(

Anybody know how to fix this sort of thing? I heard that putting vegetable oil on the actual tape inside works, but that's probably not a wise decision.

When in doubt, refer to this.

If you count the spools moving in the player, I don't think compressed air would fix it, let alone do anything significant.

Can you pinpoint where the squealing is coming from? That can give me a better idea on how to fix it.

Sure. I played tons of other cassettes in the player, and they all play fine. Except for the Joan Jett one, but that one's probably squealing for the same reason as the Heart cassette.

So if I had to guess where the problem is coming from, I'd say the cassette. The player is a fairly recent one, so it must be.
