VMU Battery Voltage?

I'm looking at rechargeable 2032 batteries, but none seem to be 3.3v CR2032. I've only seen 3.6v LIR2032 or 3v MR2032 (i think its MR2032)

Will 3.6v or 3v be fine for the VMU?

I once used double AA batteries to power a VMU. I made a battery pack so that I could play the VMU games. AA batteries are 1.5 volts and I used 4 of them if memory serves correctly. I do not see why two 3 volt wouldn't work for you :)

CR2032s aren't rated at 3.3v to start with -- they're rated 3.0v each.

Also, all batteries are going to have slight variances anyway (especially as they are used). I don't see why you'd have any problem with LIR2032s or MR2032s -- they're all supposed to be interchangeable, more or less.

Alright nice. Just making sure. A fresh pair non-rechargables died after one playthrough of Chao Adventure which is like 2-3 hours lol

An interesting question I just thought of is, will the batteries be charged while the Dreamcast is powering the VMU or no? That'd be neat if so. I know the clock battery charges while the DC is on

It would be cool if it does charge them, but i doubt that it will. Let us know if it does.

The VMU doesn't have a dedicated charging circuit, so they won't charge while the console is running. Basically, while the VMU is plugged into the console (and the console is powered on), the batteries are effectively isolated from the rest of the device. This is because charging a non-rechargeable battery can cause it to leak or catch fire.

Just replaced the batteries in my VMU with new CR2032s. Booted up my system, inserted the VMU into the controller, and then the screen and VMU pulsed twice. Now it looks like the console is dead :( If I remove and reinsert the power cord, the fan will come on but the red light is off, the drive doesn't spin and there's no signal being sent to the monitor.

Anyone ever experienced anything like this before? Is the system salvageable or should I start searching eBay for a replacement? <sigh>

You might want to start a new topic for this. I doubt that this has anything to do with changing the batteries in your VMU. It might be related to the prongs inside the Dreamcast power board. It at least is a good place to start and it is easy enough to try yourself. here is a guide that might help you

Hope you are right and will give that a try. That said, it was working fine until I inserted the VMU into controller. Hmmmm...
