Does anyone know if it Possible to play custom maps on quake 3 DC?

Meaning someone set one up, then the VMU holder go and download it.

Here are some good one's I found: (Or sound good) First one's are CTF.

====================================================
Information/known problems

This is my first publically released map. The two bases are mirrored
across a void-style crossroads, but the bases themselves are fully enclosed.

Bot file (.aas) is unoptimised; running with an optimised .aas file
crashes Quake III. This results in a slightly larger .pk3 file
than I would have liked, but the bots still run OK.

====================================================
Construction

Base: From scratch
Editor: Q3Radiant 181 by Id Software (what else?)
Other progs: Q3 Build by
-Sagnor
-AzrKnight
(have a look on Rust for it)
Build time: about 3 weeks of spare time

No... I don't think you can, but I'm not sure,
don't quite remember. I'll find a VMU with some
space on it & try this when I have the time however.

Ok, will It work If you set up a server with that map rather than just trying to play it on SP or something?

Sorry, it wouldn't work.
First, the VMU has a really limited capacity (I forgot the numbers, but it's really low, it's under 1 mb!)
Secondly, the game doesn't support reading maps from the VMU nor loading in the RAM a map downloaded from a server. And also the PC maps are in a different format from the Dc maps as far as I know, so you would need to convert them to be used with the Dreamcast, and usualy PC maps require too much RAM for the Dc to make it work, so you would have to edit them first.

The only way I would see it work is if you could manage to convert a PC map to the Dreamcast format and then make an iso of the game with the different maps so that Dc users can burn the modified game and play with it.

Yes it is possible and already done. New models are possible too.

No, you have to convert the files for DreamCast and burn them on CD.

t.r.i.c, this is very interesting. We talked earlier on quake. Are you able to upload a rip of this somewhere?

I will try, I just switched over to Ubuntu and have no good program for making isos, but I will try to get one of my old system up and running.
Anyone know a good upload server?

I think I will try mediafire.com. At megaupload you always have to wait after one download...

Has anyone considered hacking the maps list in the original files on the disc, reburning the disc with the new maps and seeing if they show up in the server? I can certainly create new maps for use with the game if I know the limitations of the maps based on size, entities, brush faces, etc... (some of you know what I'm talking about).

If someone who is familiar with coding can check into that, I can design some test maps for the moderators to check out.
